The origin of the Egyptian flag

The actual flag of Egypt was chosen in 1972, when the Law was amended to change the flag. They removed the stars from the flag and replaced by a golden hawk. In 1984, the hawk was replaced by a golden eagle known as the eagle of Saladdin, the Ayubbid Sultan who ruled Egypt in 12th Century, and the same Saladdin of the Crusades. Three equal horizontal bands of red (top), white, and black; the national emblem (a gold Eagle of Saladin facing the hoist side with a shield superimposed on its chest above a scroll bearing the name of the country in Arabic centered in the white band; the band colors derive from the Arab Liberation flag and represent oppression (black), overcome through bloody struggle (red), to be replaced by a bright future (white).

The National Anthem of Egypt

Egypt’s first national anthem dated back to 1869 to honor the monarch. It is unclear how long this anthem was in use. Although the monarchy deposed in 1952, the anthem was used as part of the anthem of the United Arab Republic with Syria in 1958 during the Union between Egypt and Syria in that time. Mohamed Younis Al-Qady wrote The lyrics of the latest National Anthem of Egypt. Sayed Darwish composed the music and kept close with early leaders of the national movement for independence in Egypt like Mustafa Kamel. The words belongs to one of Mostafa Kamel’s most famous speeches.
