Egypt is called ‘Misr’مصر in the Arabic language, the official language of Egypt. In the ancient times, Egypt was called Kemet which means ‘the black land’ due to its fertile land. The great Nile River penetrates its territory from south to northward making Green Nile Valley and Delta. It divides the country into two parts the eastern and western bank of the Nile. Mostly, people live in fertile areas along the Nile River, around the coast of Mediterranean Sea and in the Delta region. Therefore, Egypt is divided. Historically, Egypt has been divided into Upper and Lower Egypt. In Upper Egypt, the Pharaohs wore the white crown. However, the Pharaohs wore the red crown in Lower Egypt.

Through History

Egypt has one of the oldest and wonderful histories around the world. Since the Pre-dynastic period passes through Dynastic times, the Roman Empire, the Christian era, and the Arab rule. Continuing, the Fatimid Caliphate till the Mamluks and Ottoman; after that the time of Muhammad Ali pasha, the French and British occupations. Egypt became an independent country in 1922. It also became a member of the United Nations and the Arab League. After the Army’s revolution of 1952, Egypt turned into a republic.

Nowadays, Egypt has 29 governorates. The most famous are Cairo, Giza, Alexandria. In the north, there are Daqhaleya, Gharbeya, Sharqeuia, Matrouh, Suez, Ismaeleya, Port Said, Red Sea,  North Sinai snd South Sinai. While in the south there are Minya, Quena, Luxor and Aswan.

Various Facilities 

Egypt has a wide cultural mix. As life in the countryside differs from life in the large modern cities. Majority of people are Muslims while Christians are a considerable Minority. Tourism is an important sector in Egypt. As there are different types of tourism such as cultural, entertainment, medical and religious tourism etc. When you visit Egypt, you will find everything you need. Besides, it enjoys moderate weather especially in winter.

The country offers several types of transportation. Especially, you can find it in the large touristic cities. A long railway network runs from Alexandria to Aswan, and a wide net of subway and metro that runs in greater Cairo. Moreover, there are various airports such as Cairo International Airport, Burj Al-Arab Airport, Sharm El Sheikh Airport, Hurghada Airport, Marsa Alam, Aswan Airport and Luxor Airport.
