At first, The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities issued a guide that introduces preventive and precautionary controls and requirements that are applied to all hotels and tourist establishments, airports, Egyptian aviation control, archaeological sites, museums and various tourist activities, to avoid the spread or infection of the new Corona virus, and Ministry of Aviation prepared it in coordination with the Ministry of Aviation, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Egyptian Federation For tourist rooms.

On May 15, 2020 , Egypt started to gradually re-open hotels and resorts. To receive domestic tourism, hotels and resorts must obtain the “Hygiene Safety Certificate”. Afterwards, they will work with a maximum occupancy rate of 25%. The occupancy rate increased then to 50% on June 1, 2020. In cooperation with the Tourism Chambers and international consulting firms specialized in the field of hygiene, Mo TA conducts regular inspections of certified hospitality establishments to ensure efficient implementation of the set regulations . After July 2020, Egypt will receive inbound tourism in certified hotels and resorts located in coastal governorates (Red Sea, South Sinai and Matrouh) with maximum occupancy rates of 50%.

In a statement, the Ministry of Tourism stated to prepare in coordination with the Ministries of Aviation, Health and Population, in addition to the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers.

How Egypt Prepares to reopen the International Tourism?

In a statement, the Ministry of Tourism stated that a guide was prepared in coordination with the Ministries of Aviation, Health and Population, and the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers. The regulations include 9 items. Firstly, precautionary measures before the traveler enters Egypt. In addition to, general controls are must for operating hotel establishments, tourism and tourist activities.

Pre-travel Precautionary Measures

Pre-boarding – Travelers must have a filled-in copy of the ‘Traveler Declaration’ form prior to receiving the boarding pass. It includes a questionnaire requesting information on: A person’s travels in the 14 days prior to visiting Egypt:

(A) Confirm that the traveler had not shown any symptoms related to COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to travel.

(B) Confirm that the traveler had not knowingly been in touch with COVID-19 patients in the 14 days prior to travel.

(C) Disclaimer that the traveler will notify the hotel management or doctor should they show any symptoms related to COVID-19 during their stay in Egypt.

(D) Disclaimer that the traveler has a valid international medical insurance that covers their stay in Egypt.

Only travelers arriving from countries declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as severely infected with COVID-19 up to the epidemic level, Egypt required to submit a recent PCR test result (done in the source country within a maximum of 48 hours prior to travel date) upon entry to Egypt; the list of those countries will update and announce on a regular basis.

On-board Egyptian Airlines

  • Air crafts disinfected rigorously before each flight.
  • Wearing face masks inside the aircraft is mandatory (passengers and flight attendants).
  • Only dry meals and canned drinks served by the staff.
  • Universal Protection Kits contain disinfectants, gloves, and face masks are available (with spare quantities with the flight crew).
  • Distribution of printed publications (newspapers, magazines, etc …) prohibited onboard.
  • A specific area is allocated in the aircraft for passengers with chronic diseases who are unable to wear the face mask for long periods of time.
  • The last two rows in the aircraft allocated to passengers showing symptoms of illness during the flight at the same time.  Above all, A flight attendant will be assigned to attend on them and a separate toilet for their use.

Arrival at Egyptian Airports

  • Regular sterilization and disinfection of airports carried out.
  • Employees and staff members follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Wearing face masks is mandatory inside all airport facilities.
  • Physical distancing maintained.
  • They check the temperature of all travelers and airport staff.
  • Disinfection of luggage before they place on the luggage conveyor belt
