Luxor is the land of culture and was a glorious city in ancient times. Land of stunning temples, and important center of pilgrims in the past. It is the core of the New Kingdom in ancient Egypt. It located in the upper part of Egypt about 670 Km south of Cairo and 220 Km north of Aswan. There are various legends, stories, dynasties, cosmologies, philosophies and teachings about Luxor. ‘Wasset’ was the original ancient name used in the Pharaonic era. Thent he Greeks and Romans named it “Thebes” . Also, they called, Thebes of the hundred doors and the land of legends. It was the center of resistance against the influences of the invaders at the Greco-Roman era. After that, the Arabs named it ‘Luxor’ since the seventh century till nowadays, which means ‘the Palaces’.

Thebes was the religious capital for most of the Pharaonic period. The great buildings surrounded it, like: Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple on the eastern bank and the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queen, Medinet Habu, The Ramesseum, Deir el-Medina, Tombs of the Nobles, Deir el-Bahri on the western bank of the Nile beside the Christian and Islamic buildings. Luxor has one third of the monuments around the world and considered the ‘Large Open-air Museum city‘.

Both Luxor and Aswan are the sunniest cities in Egypt. So that winter is the best time to come and see this great city. Although it is an old city, it has modern new roads, awesome hotels, beautiful shops, bazaars and markets, etc. you can arrive to the city through Luxor International Airport or by train. Not only historical sites that you can visit but also there are different activities you can practice there; for example, shopping in different markets, Ride a Balloon, and make a cruise Tour form Luxor to Aswan, excursion of Faulcon the Nile etc.
